Students on Strike - In Niger

For some time now the students of the University Abdou Moumouni Dioffo of Niamey - Niger have been on strike.

Over the past years the regime of General Ibrahim Baré Mainasnara has been violating the basic Human Rights of the democratic forces in the country in general and of students in particular.

The students are protesting against the deterioration of their living and study conditions and the violation of students rights and academic freedom.

Especially the violation of the right to freedom of association and the right to freedom of expression.

"To demand an improvement of their living conditions and to safeguard their rights and interests", comments Zakaria Abdourahamane, acting president of the International Union of Students, "is a noble struggle that needs our solidarity."
